# Event-day operations

> Check-ins, meals, scans, and live updates at scale

Event day is Harp's highest-concurrency moment: hundreds of hackers checking in, eating, and moving between workshops. Everything runs off each hacker's personal QR code.

## Scanning

* QR scanning for check-in, meals, workshops, and any custom activity
* Scan types are configurable per event, so you create one for each activity you want to track
* Live scan statistics let organizers watch attendance as it happens

## Meals

Meal groups split hackers into cohorts to load-balance food lines, with attendance visibility per group.

## Schedule and announcements

* Organizers create and update the schedule live during the event. Hackers see changes immediately in the portal, and the public site picks them up through the [public API](/harp/reference/public-api).
* Scheduled announcements go out as notifications, written manually or generated from schedule items.

## Hacker-facing resources

Schedules, notifications, FAQs, and the hacker pack are all served from the portal, so "where do I find X?" has one answer all weekend.
